Hey, how late is too late for an SDCC wrap-up newsletter?
(Asking for a friend.)
This year was a blast as always, a whirlwind of news/meetings/plan-hatching/not-sleeping.
The biggest news for me personally came during the Comic Creator’s Guide to Hollywood panel, when former head of Sony TV Jeff Frost (Breaking Bad, Cobra Kai) let slip that he's working with Thunder Comics to bring PRODIGAL SON to your TV screens!
Jeff's passion for the book was evident to all who were there, and it was nice to hear how much he enjoyed the comic we made with your help.
Meanwhile, co-creator/star Martin Kove and his son Jesse were talking up the book at Terrificon this past weekend, as reported by PopXP’s Nile Scala:
I’ve been told that the last of the Kickstarter rewards shipped last week, so if you ordered signed copies, keep your eyes peeled!
As for the rest of the series, three issues are currently in the can, and artist Alper Gecgel is currently working on issue four.
More news on how you can get your hands on future issues as it becomes available...
Photos or it Didn’t Happen
My favorite part of SDCC is getting face time with people I see only once or twice a year.
Like…
Sadly, I never take enough pictures at these things, so if we hung out and I don’t have a photo, please know I love you dearly.
(Special shout-out to my AirBnB roomies, Steven Prince and Ted Sikora.)
Until next year, stay classy, San Diego!
The Final Countdown
CTHULHU INVADES FAIRY TALES is entering its final week on Kickstarter, so last Friday, I joined a Brady Bunch-worth of creators to talk about the book on Kickin’ it with K-Pop:
We got a little distracted talking about:
My real name
The rap battle we may or may not have had to cut from the show
Performing scenes from “Pulp Fiction” as my TMNT character, Cody Jones
But we did eventually get around to talking about the story I contributed with Mick Beyers.
I know most people think of me and Mick as mere comic creators, but we *really* consider ourselves historians.
And, while researching Germanic folklore on a typical Tuesday, we were stunned to discover the long-lost original version of a familiar fairy tale, titled SNOW WHITE AND THE OLD GOD.
The tale is nothing like the version we've come to know and love. Most of all, we were gobsmacked to learn that it was the Brothers Grimm who created Cthulhu, not H.P. Lovecraft, as has long been believed.
It's hard for me to take credit as "writer" on this story--the Brothers did most of the heavy lifting--and I know Mick feels like he merely translated their work into pictograms, but the coloring by Gab Contreras sure is pretty.
You can read this revelation in CTHULHU INVADES FAIRY TALES, live for one more week.

If I don’t write another newsletter, it’s because I was crushed under this monstrosity.
Talk soon?
