Hey, you got big plans this weekend?
Me, I’ll probably be catching up on YELLOWJACKETS and diving into the new season of THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL.
But last weekend I saw two, count ‘em, TWO movies at the theater: DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS and AIR.
D&D is a fun popcorn flick with a charming cast, but if I had to recommend one, it would be AIR, the story of how Nike got Michael Jordan to join their basketball shoe line.
I really want this movie to succeed because I love the ethos behind Artist’s Equity, the new profit-sharing company from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
And frankly, I think Hollywood could use an influx of new ideas. We’re all tired of seeing new versions of “existing IP,” right?
Which is the perfect segue into the preview for CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1973, a new comic based on a very old property.
When I say “old,” I mean it’s based on Carmilla, the erotic novella by Sheridan Le Fanu that inspired Bram Stoker's vampire tale 26 years later.
(Carmilla is for people who think Dracula would've been better if it had more lesbians and wasn't so long-winded.)
"CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1973" is a 26-page one-shot written by me and D.E. Schrader (Baby Badass, Rafael Garcia: Henchman, Cannibals on Mars), edited by Malissa White (Nightmare, Soundbox, PanelxPanel) and featuring the art of Ismael Canales (Athena Voltaire, The Catch, Zenescope´s Robyn Hood and Belle), and colors by Alex Zeif (Cult of Dracula, Hatchet, Monster Matador).
Plus a murderer’s row of great cover artists. (More on them later.)
Let’s check out a slightly-censored-so-as-to-be-SFW preview, huh?
This book has it all: sex, vamps, and rock’n’roll!
More peeks inside the book next time, plus our cover reveals.
And if you haven’t already…
Oh! And one last thing before I go…
Comics Happy Hour Kickstarter Exclusive Print!
I’m part of a Facebook group of indie creators we like to call Comics Happy Hour.
And somehow, eight of us are either running a Kickstarter campaign right now or are about to launch.
Somehow Mick Beyers got suckered into drawing the above print, with Ryan Kroboth throwing down colors.
It is, as the kids say, “dope.”
(Shut up. Some kids still say that. Somewhere.)
The first five campaigns below are live right now. The last three are launching soon.
Please back or follow them all! (Or at least 4 of them if you want the print.)
In the Land of the Dragon #1-2 (by Luca Frigerio, Lorenzo Re, Stefano Ronconi and Toben Racicot, published by yours truly.)
Sunmaker 1-3: Frozen Apocalyptic Fantasy Finale (by Liam Hayes, Ryan Kroboth and Dave Lentz)
Like Father, Like Daughter: A Superhero Drama's Grand Finale (by Kat Calamia, Eileen Widjaja and Taylor Esposito)
HAUNTING: On the Run - Supernatural Horror Action (by Phil Falco, Mauricio Mora, Andrés Samboní and LetterSquids)
Tart 15 - Deal With the Devil (by Kevin Joseph, Ludovic Sallé and DC Hopkins)
Crossover Division Vol. 1: Fictions & Other Truths Hardcover (by Will Allred, Pablo Martinena, Alice Leclert, Ryan Kroboth and Brant Fowler)
Night Wolf #1-7: Urban Fantasy Werewolf Coming-of-Age Drama (by Rob Multari, Carlos Herrera, Cat Melvyn & more).
CARMILLA UNBOUND #1 (by Clay Adams, D.E. Schrader, Ismael Canales & Alex Zief)
Undead or Alive (by Steve Bryant & Jason Millet) is also represented but does not have a campaign live or launching soon. But it’s great! So keep your eyes peeled for it.
FOUR OF THESE PROJECTS END IN ONE WEEK OR LESS!
So be sure to check ‘em all out and get this special collab piece to add to your collection.
(And special thanks to Brant Fowler for putting together all that info and making the killer graphics above.)
OK! Substack tells me I’m out of space.
Until next time, gentle reader…
- Clay
Clay, that art...nice! Totally jealous!
