Hey, are you nervous about the election this week?
Whichever team you vote for, I’ve got something that will (maybe?*) make you feel better below.
But first…

DEADSKINS! 10th Anniversary Hardcover
Ten years ago, Alexandre O. Philippe and I teamed with artist Leila del Duca, colorist Brett Nienburg, and letterer Charles Pritchett to create DEADSKINS!, a zombie horror western comedy for mature readers.
(Think “Blazing Saddles” meets “The Walking Dead.”)
We serialized it on friedcomics.com, selling it for 99 cents an issue, and if my accounting is correct, we made about 5 bucks. Not quite enough to cover our costs…
So we put it on comiXology!
Finally, in 2020, we Kickstarted a “remastered” edition, darkening the lines to bring out the beauty of our black, white, and red production.
We printed all five issues over three volumes, and at the time, each volume was our highest grossing campaign ever.
Now, just a few scant years later, we are nearly sold out of our original run of DEADSKINS!, so that means it’s time for THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY EDITION!
This hardcover collection will contain a full cover gallery and exclusive, never-before-collected bonus material.

Speaking of crowdfunding…
In a related story, last week I was asked to join Night Wolf’s Rob Multari and The Oswald Chronicles’ JD Calderon on their Livestream “Of Mice and Wolves.”
This “Mastermind”-style roundtable is billed as a place where indie comics creators can workshop issues they may be facing in their comic business.
Topics discussed:
Convention strategies to maximize sales
How much marketing is “too much”
Keeping a project on track when your creative team ghosts you
And, uh, strategies for Kickstarting a HC collection of a book you’ve already Kickstarted in singles (wonder who brought that issue…?)
If you’re an indie creator—or just the type of person who likes to see how the sausage is made—you can watch the whole thing here:
FYI - the comics creator Mastermind was pioneered by ComixLaunch’s Tyler James, whose podcast is an excellent resource for the indie creator. So, if you need an extra dose of crowdfunding advice, check out this recent edition, where I spoke to Amrit Birdi about his keys to crowdfunding success. Click the image below to listen…
Do You Like Scary Mubies?
OK, before I get to the main event of this post, I wanted to let you know that THE SUBSTANCE, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, is hands down the best horror movie I’ve seen in years.
If this riveting and creepy-as-crap parable about the things we do to ourselves to stay young is still playing at a theater near you, please get out to see it!
But if you can’t find it on the big screen, you can find it on a small stream, namely through a free trial of Mubi.
The Mrs. and I found that the standalone app wasn’t quite ready for primetime, but you can do a 7-day free trial as an add-on to your Apple TV or Amazon Prime account.
If you do get a chance to check out the flick, let me know what you think! I’m dying to talk about this mubi… uh, movie.
And now for the main event…
They say the devil you know is better than the one you don’t… but IS it?
A few years ago, Mick Beyers, Julio Rojas, and I channeled our election anxiety into the following tale for the first volume of NIGHTMARE THEATER.
On the cusp of yet another horrific day spent waiting for returns, we are pleased to re-present the tale here for your reading pleasure (?).
So without further ado…
Back soon with more details on the 10th Anniversary DEADSKINS! hardcover. Until then…
Happy voting?
