Happy Batman Week/Baseball Opening Day, everybody!
Brass tacks:
Ringo nominations have opened up, and while I don’t usually campaign for it, boy it would be nice to get nominated for one of these things.
And in case you just thought Ringo was the severely underrated drummer of a band from Liverpool, here’s what the website says:
The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill and fun of comics. Voting is open to fans and pros alike!

The eighth annual awards will return as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, The Baltimore Comic-Con. Top honors will be announced Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Have the Ringos only been around for 8 years? Crazy. Feels like they’ve been doing this forever.
In any event, here are the books I worked on last year that would qualify, according to their rules:
DREAMQUEST - Writer (Clay Adams), Artist (Mick Beyers), Colorist (Julio Rojas), Letterer (Clay Adams), Single Issue
CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1973 - Writers (Clay Adams & D.E. Schrader), Artist (Ismael Canales), Colorist (Alex Zief), Letterer (Clay Adams), Single Issue
BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN #2 - Writer (Clay Adams), Artist (Kyle Roberts), Colorist (Ilaria Chiocca), Letterer (Clay Adams), Single Issue
NIGHTMARE THEATER 2 - Best Anthology
{Clears throat, speaks in least-thirsty voice:}
If you liked any of our little bits of nonsense last year, please consider giving the teams some recognition by hitting this button below:
Helpful Links or a Quid Pro Quo?
Look, I’m not gonna offer a quid pro quo, because that would be wrong.
You should only vote for us because you like our comics, not because I’m about to give you a bunch of links that will save you money on great entertainment.*
MAX (the app my son used to call “HOBO GO”) is currently 45% off through April 9. That’s a pretty sweet deal already, and if you’re an American Express holder, you may be eligible to receive an additional $25 off if you spend $99 or more.
Speaking of Amex…
If you’re a Blue Cash Preferred Card holder, you can enroll to receive a credit of $7 every month you spend $9.99 on a DisneyPlus bundle. That’s how I get DisneyPlus and Hulu for $3/month.
Want cheap Paramount Plus w/ Showtime?
Walmart+ members get a free basic Paramount Plus subscription, or you can upgrade to add Showtime for $6.49/month or $65/year.
Oh, hey, did I mention it’s Baseball Opening Day?
MLB.TV is half off when you renew your membership to Major League Baseball Alumni Association. It won’t do you any good the first year, but with every renewal of your $25 membership, you’ll get a discount code for 50% off. (Or, if the early games don’t matter to you, you can just wait to sign up for MLB.TV around Father’s Day and snag a 50% discount then.)
What about comics?
Brian K. Vaughan just announced that his Substack is now 30% off its already insanely low yearly price. Members get some great behind-the-scenes peeks, and it helps underwrite the brilliant NSFW graphic novel SPECTATORS.
Whew! That’s a lotta cheap entertainment!
Speaking of Great Substacks…
I’m thrilled to see my old pal (and BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN #1-2 editor) James Powell is finally on Substack.
Balancing Opposites is for writers who are struggling to listen to their own creative genius. Writers who want to find success on their own terms, without the constant striving, looking for more, and feeling like they’re not doing enough.
It’s for writers who know what they want to do next but still seek permission from others.
It’s also for people who simply enjoy hearing about the writer’s life.
I’ve been subscribed to James’ newsletter for years, and he always shares great insights (particularly thinking about his epic series about landing a book with Dark Horse).
Just read the first edition today, and looking forward to many more! You can subscribe at the link below…
Crossover Print!
Before I go: In case you haven’t heard, surveys for BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN #3 are going out soon.
Backers of both BBOF #3 and NIGHTMARE THEATER 3-D will receive this amazing print:
If you missed the campaigns, there’s still time to nab the print by clicking the buttons below:
Leave a comment on the BBoF page that says, “Shelley Poe Stoker Sent Me.”
But hurry! Offer is only good until the surveys close.
OK, that’s all for now. Gotta get back to scripting a new comic…
So mad, it might appear I offered a quid pro quo for a Ringo nom…
*EDITOR’S NOTE: It’s a JOKE, people. (But, uh, the links do work.)

P.S. In the latest edition of the ComixLaunch podcast, I chat with Ted Sikora, a comic book writer and filmmaker, about building the Hero Tomorrow Comics Universe with the help of Kickstarter and the support of the ComixLaunch Pro program and community over the past few years. Give it a listen!
