Hey, how are you feeling?
Me, not so great. Which is why this will be a very photo-heavy edition of the ‘stack.
Where did I get sick? Possibly at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City, where Joker-to-my-Batman Mick Beyers and I spent last Friday, digging through comic boxes and meeting up with people we usually only see online.
Like this guy:
Blake immediately set up his seriously impressive “roving reporter” podcasting equipment by the food trucks, and I stupidly asked, “Hey, who are you interviewing?”
“You two, dipshit,” he replied.
The interview, as always, was a blast, and I can only assume he is also sick and/or still hungover, because he hasn’t posted it yet.
But please check out the great stuff he’s been doing lately, such as his interviews with boldfacers Geoff Johns & Bryan Hitch, Jason Aaron, and Francis Manapul.
(While you’re there, smash or maybe gently press that subscribe button to get notified when our interview goes live.)
Other highlights of the con were chatting with fellow ComixLaunchers James Mascia, Michael Dolce and Nathan Lueth, as well as catching up with the fine folks at Massive Publishing and Mad Cave Studios.
But the biggest thrill for this comics geek was meeting Rick Burchett, possibly the greatest BLACKHAWK artist ever. He didn’t have any BLACKHAWK pages for sale, but I did snag this splash from SHADOW OF THE BAT, inked by Klaus Janson!
I love seeing the pasted-up letters and whited-out mistakes, along with the blue pencil notes on the board! Digital art just doesn’t have that same charm…
Anyway, exhausted but happy, the next day Mick and I continued our Missouri tour with a four-hour signing at Heroes & Wizards Comics in Webb City:
The shop is amazing and the community even more so. If you’re ever in the area, please stop by and give them your business. Owners Wayne and Brenda are very welcoming, and they have a great selection of back issues.
Honestly, the event was better than some cons we’ve been to recently!
Mick and I sold a little bit of everything, but DREAMQUEST was the biggest hit, with multiple people asking when a sequel would appear. And we were happy to be able to tell them:
Real soon!
Plotting sessions with editor Frank Pittarese have already begun, and this one will be another doozy. Stay tuned to this ‘stack for the pre-launch page and more info.
And if you haven’t read DREAMQUEST yet, you can snag a copy here:
But I’m sure none of the fine folk in Webb City got me sick.
Maybe it came in this package that arrived at the Dream Factory this week?
The metal covers came out beautifully!
Still waiting on the bulk of the run to arrive (later this month/early April), but it was a real kick to see this issue in print.
If you’re a backer, expect surveys to hit your inbox in the next couple of weeks…
So, anyway, no idea where I picked up this cold. For all I know it was one of my kids who gave it to me.
Yeah, that would be just like them.
Anyway, wish me well! Gotta get better before Spring Break starts next week. Hoping to make it on the next edition of “Comic Creators Gone Wild.”
Snottily,
Clay
