Hey, there! Periodic reminder that I’m Clay Adams, writer of BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN and DREAMQUEST, co-writer of CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1973, and co-editor of the NIGHTMARE THEATER horror anthology. You probably signed up for this newsletter on one of those Kickstarters… or maybe we met at a signing or con? In any event, glad you’re here. Pull up a seat, grab a beverage of your choice, and feast your eyes on the latest news…
How are things?
It’s the calm before the storm, AKA the week before I don’t sleep for four days SDCC, so I thought I’d take a brief minute to check the socials and see what—
Whoa!
Don, you know I don’t condone swear words. But thanks for the kind, non-swear-y ones about NIGHTMARE THEATER 3-D!
I’m happy to report that the 3-D conversion is finally complete, and this one will be headed off to the printer real soon and I can finally sleep attend Comic Con.
If you’re an NT3D backer, look for surveys in the next few days, followed by your digital copies.
And if you’re not a backer…
Let’s all stop ignoring the elephant in the room…
Will you be in San Diego next week?
Come find me! As usual, I’ll be the guy fighting the sea of humanity, trying to find some actual comic books at this thing they call “Comic Con.”
Which means I’ll be hanging out with the dealers (uh, the good kind) (the other good kind) and the fine folks in Small Press.
And I’ll occasionally be going to some panels. Like this one!
Super psyched for my PRODIGAL SON co-writer Don Handfield and his former Scout Comics (co-)publisher David Byrne to finally break this news to the world.
AMP will be doing some big things in the comics world very soon, so if you want to get in on the ground floor, come check out the panel.
(What else are you gonna do? Stand in line for Hall H?)
Non-SDCC “Content”
When I get back from the con, I’ll be sleeping diving into a pretty intense session of writing for a few projects—some top secret, some not.
But I’ve been doing a fair bit of lettering recently, and one of the books I’m working on is currently on Kickstarter. Namely…
Pioneers: Blood & Stars Parts #1-3
In the third act of this beautifully crafted (five part) saga, creator / artist / NIGHTMARE THEATER 3-D contributor Peter Taylor joins forces with colorist / fantasy illustrator / game designer Falk Hänsel to show that LOVE is not always blind, coffee making is NEVER someone’s only talent and if you really put your mind to it... you can even shock a vampire!
Two iconic genres collide in episode #3 of this epic saga where "Alien" meets "The Expanse" by way of "The Hunger"!
If that sounds like something you can sink your teeth into…
I’ve also had the pleasure of working with Farhan Qureshi on pre-press production for a few of his books.
His latest is on Kickstarter now as well…
Battle Panda 1 - 3
Battle Panda is a fun, feel good uplifting adventure comic that’s Goonies meets TMNT. It’s written by Farhan and Melissa J Massey, with art by Crystal Pandita, colors by Warnia Sahadewa, letters by Justin Birch and edits by NIGHTMARE THEATER volume 1 contributor Nicole D'Andria.
It’s family friendly action that’s black & white & (should be) read all over!
Ear Candy
When I’m not sleeping writing & lettering comics, I help out Tyler James with ComixLaunch.
This month on the podcast, I talk with Crossover Division creator/writer Will Allred about the impact the ComixLaunch community and larger comics community have had on his launches.
It turned into a great conversation about serializing your long-form comic, with plenty of tips on how to find collaborators. Give it a listen by clicking the image below!
Cliffhanger
OK, the con hasn’t even started yet, and I’m already exhausted.
But before I go…
I mentioned a few top secret projects before.
One is something I’ve been cooking up with Fabio Ramacci, Ilaria Chiocca, and Frank Pittarese that you should be hearing more about soon.
The other is something I’ll be talking with OG FRIED Comics co-creator Alexandre O. Philippe about at SDCC.
Stay tuned for more on both!
But first I gotta catch a few Zs before this con…
Clay
Have a great time at Comic Con, Clay! Thanks for the Battle Panda shout out, your letters have been really poppin!
