Hey, there! Periodic reminder that I’m Clay Adams, writer of BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN and DREAMQUEST, co-writer of PRODIGAL SON (in stores now!) and CARMILLA UNBOUND, and co-editor of the NIGHTMARE THEATER horror anthology. You probably signed up for this newsletter on one of those Kickstarters… or maybe we met at a signing or con? In any event, glad you’re here. Pull up a seat, grab a beverage of your choice, and feast your eyes on the latest news…
Hey, will you be at SDCC this year?
Devilish Dave Schrader and I will be, and we’re bringing a few friends…
Yep, it’s going to be a packed house in Small Press K-06:
Here’s a handy-dandy map to help you find us:
We'll have plenty of Bloodline & Fried Comics, plus an ashcan for a brand new book.
Tell Me More About This Ashcan
THE GRUNCH is the most straight-up horror book I've ever written, and if I do say so myself, some of my best scripts, thanks to the hard work of editor extraordinaire Frank Pittarese.
I'm also thrilled to be reuniting with the RED XMAS/PBOW team of Fabio Ramacci and Ilaria Chiocca, and they are crushing it on the art.
Fabio and I will be signing the 16-page SDCC exclusive ashcan all weekend, and we’d love to put one in your hands.
But if you can't make it to pick up the ashcan, or you just love great horror comics, a limited quantity will be available through the upcoming Kickstarter campaign...
THE GRUNCH 1 - Surreal modern horror for mature readers
Here's the pitch:
The White Lotus meets Midsommar. Part One of Three
Welcome to Luxuria. A secret island getaway for husbands and wives. An exclusive paradise where women can experience true sisterhood…and men meet a grisly fate.
At this tropical oasis, true happiness lurks around every corner—but so does the Grunch. Renew your spirit and find rebirth at our female-friendly resort.
The cost is all-inclusive, but the payment is eternal.
Launch date is TBA, but if you want to be among the first to find out--and snag the first issue (plus the SDCC Exclusive Ashcan, if you can't make the show)...

Enough Shilling. What Can I Do at SDCC for Free?
Ha. Next question.
OK. Are There Any Panels?
Yes!
I’m thrilled to be joining Phil Falco, Kat Calamia, and Russell Nohelty to talk the ins and outs of putting together a comic book anthology.
Come see how the sausage is made Friday night at 7pm in room 29AB!
You Promised Me Special Guests
Indeed, I did.
Not only will Fabio and I be signing the GRUNCH ashcan all weekend, Dave and I will be signing NIGHTMARE THEATER and CARMILLA UNBOUND too.
AND…
Mick Beyers will be slumming it with us making an appearance on Saturday from 11-1 to sign copies of DREAMQUEST 1 and 2 as we gear up for Part 3 later this year.
What’s he doing the rest of the time?
He’ll be at another booth promoting some book called White Ash. Anybody heard of it?
Anyway…there may be more guests stopping by over the weekend, so watch this space—and the socials!—for the latest news.
Blast From the Past
Finally, Substack just reminded me that I said this exactly one year ago:
So…“Soon” turned out to be a year.
Look, when you’re an old man, a year goes by fast. But some things never change.
I’m still exhausted.
See you in San Diego?
-Clay
P.S. Digital rewards for CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1984 went out today, as did surveys for BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN 1-4. No rest for the weary!
Looking forward to seeing you there, Clay! Your panel sounds rad as hell with that line up.
