Hey, there! Periodic reminder that I’m Clay Adams, writer of BLAZING BLADE OF FRANKENSTEIN and DREAMQUEST, co-writer of CARMILLA UNBOUND: 1973, and co-editor of the NIGHTMARE THEATER horror anthology. You probably signed up for this newsletter on one of those Kickstarters… or maybe we met at a signing or con? In any event, glad you’re here. Pull up a seat, grab a beverage of your choice, and feast your eyes on the latest news…
So…
What’d you think of that Superman trailer?
Me, I think hope for the future is a good note to end the year on (the year does end today, December 19th, right?).
(Right?)
Meanwhile, I’m looking ahead to the first quarter of 2025, which will bring:
more CARMILLA UNBOUND
And hopefully much, much more.
But before we can look ahead, let’s look back at…
The Year that Was
This was a strange year for me, in that I only ran one Kickstarter campaign.
But despite that, the year was jam-packed. I hit a lot more conventions, did my first shop signing, took on more freelance assignments, and worked on a bunch of stuff it’s way too early to talk about.
So, embracing the Royal We because…well, because we are pretentious…here’s how 2024 went down:
In January, we worried if Taylor Swift would make it to the Super Bowl.
In February, we learned when to quit.
In March, we caught Con Crud in KC and resorted to shameless begging.
In April, we got a new agent and launched DREAMQUEST 2.
In May, the newsletter was the most important thing I did all week. But there was plenty of freelance too, plus a crossover.
In June, we spent a night in a haunted hotel.
In July, we didn’t sleep for a week.
In August, Cthulhu Invaded Fairy Tales. We also finally got around to it.
In September, we wondered where the lettering was supposed to go.
In October, we asked if you should work for exposure. We also praised our favorite bad movie.
In November, we had to choose between two devils we knew. We also did the thing we said we wouldn’t do anymore.
And this month, we celebrate the end of another great year on this crazy ball of mud.
I’m glad you’re on it at the same time, Frequent Frier.
See you in 2025?
-Clay
P.S. If you need one more blast of comic-making inspiration for the year, I chatted with Gerald von Stoddard about the power of community on a recent edition of the ComixLaunch podcast. Check it out here:
Looks like an impressive first quarter for the new year. Looking forward to more Clay Adams stories!
